The Falcons Boys Water Polo traveled south to Southwestern College for a first round tie up with Mar Vista. Mar Vista entered the CIF Division 1 bracket seeded 7th on the strength of their schedule over the season. The Mariners finished 2nd in their conference with an overall record of 14-14.
Mar Vista opened scoring, but were quickly closed down by a trio of tallies by freshman August Mason to end the first quarter. In frame 2, Mar Vista reversed the scoring to end the half knotted at 4. Period three ended up playing very quickly, as the teams traded a goal apiece and otherwise gave the scoring table little work to do. Mar Vista inched ahead in Q4, but Mason scored a quick counterpunch before teeing up an assist to sophomore Augustine Breeze for the game winner with 42 seconds to go. Sophomore Martynas Chachisvilis locked down the defense with 15 saves and a brace of steals, while Breeze, Mason and freshman Drew Smith earned a combined four exclusions (including two on Mar Vista's leading sniper, who had been key for the Mariners all season and tallied 4 goals on the day). The Falcons next face San Pasqual Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 5:15 pm.
