The TPHS Falcon water polo team wrapped up their 2018 season November 6, with a disappointing 9-8 loss to CCA in CIF Division 1 Semi-finals at Coggin Aquatic Center. A Torrey Pines CIF finals was imminent- and then suddenly, the match slipped away.
After a slow start in the first half of the game, Torrey took a third quarter lead. CCA battled back into the lead in the fourth quarter, and a last minute Falcon goal tied up the match, taking the game into overtime. Torrey came on strong in the first 3 minute overtime period, establishing a two point lead and poised for a victory. They were controlling the second overtime period very well, when with just 6 seconds left in the period, CCA scored to retie the game. Play continued with Sudden Death overtime. CCA won the sprint, and scored with a perimeter shot just twenty seconds into the period, taking the match and advancing to the finals. Torrey fans were stunned. CCA will compete against Point Loma HS for the Division 1 CIF title. Falcons have finished their season with an overall win/loss record of 18-12; Avocado West League : 3-2. Seven seniors will graduate. It has been an exciting season. We are proud of our boys... GO FALCONS! Comments are closed.
