In a heart breaking loss to Grossmont High School Saturday afternoon, the TPHS 2015 Boys Waterpolo season has come to an end. Our 2015 "Dream Team" included 12 talented senior players who have spent years in the pool together under the fine coaching of Tim Reed. In the past three years Coach Reed has continued to improve upon TPHS’s superior waterpolo program. His ability to develop winning teams was made quite evident this season, as demonstrated by Torrey’s 23-3 overall record, and further, by the impressive teamwork skills, discipline and and genuine camaraderie of our players. After a tremendous run of victories and achievements by our Dream Team, Torrey faced Grossmont High in the quarter finals of CIF Open Division playoffs at La Jolla High. Torrey played hard and strong, trading goals with Grossmont and pulling away to a three point lead by the end of the third quarter. Stunningly, luck took a sudden turn in favor of Grossmont, as three key Falcon players each took arguable third- foul exclusions and were ejected from the game. Grossmont’s adrenaline surged, and they fired off several well placed shots to tie the match. With less than two minutes left in the game, Grossmont scored again. Our opportunity for counter score was deflected, and Grossmont held the ball to run out the clock. The final score was 13-14. Comments are closed.
