Torrey Pines took third out of 48 teams entered in the San Diego Open Tournament, which began Monday evening, October 24 at Valhalla High School. The Falcons won their pool in the first round games, beating Fallbrook High and University City. They returned to Valhalla HS Friday afternoon to defeat Santana High. Saturday morning play started at Granite Hills against Mercer Island High, out of Washington. Torrey let their 9-4 lead slip in the fourth quarter, turning the match into a nail biter as Mercer tied the match up 10-10. The game remained tied in two overtimes and went to two sudden death periods, where finally Torrey prevailed and advanced to the semifinals. Falcons were eventually beaten in the semis by four-time Washington State Champion Bellevue High, with a final score of 3-4. Bellevue went on to beat University City 11-6 for the Tournament title.
