The score was 11-8, and Torrey Pines Varsity was not quite finished with University City High School Tuesday evening when the lights went out. The game had begun with fast, aggressive play, and Coach Reed was stuck with the whistle as no referees were on hand to start the match. UCHS has a strong, physically talented roster of players, and Torrey was holding tough against them. During the second quarter a referee arrived on the scene and Reed could finally coach… and the Falcons began taking charge of the game. Then, just as the teams had lined up to begin the fourth quarter, the stadium lights shut off. The pool lights remained on, creating a lovely ambiance as if a Bellagio fountain spectacular were beginning- not the final quarter of a scrapping polo match. Unfortunately after several minutes it was determined that the lights would take far too long to power back up and the game was called. It sure looked like an eminent win for the Falcons. Meanwhile in the JV tank, things did not go as well. Our JV Falcons played well but shooting accuracy was a bit down. JV suffered a 4-8 loss to UCHS. Novice also had a good match but it got away, with a 6-8 loss. Comments are closed.
