Falcon Varsity dominated Westview High at UCSD Thursday night, becoming the Palomar League Champions for the second consecutive year. Torrey rolled through Westview with a final score of 14-6. The Falcons have been undefeated in league play this season, and have an overall game record 20-1. KUSI was on hand to film the game; check out the news clip on the link above. JV and Novice played Westview Wednesday evening, with a win for JV 10-3, and a loss in sudden death overtime for the Novice squad.
Falcon Junior Varsity finished 4th in a field of 32 teams at the San Diego Open Tournament, played Monday Oct 19 through Saturday the 24th. Our JV started the week with impressive wins against Patrick Henry HS, 8-5, and later that evening against Grossmont HS, 11-3. Play resumed Friday evening, where Torrey crafted a 6-5 win over San Pasqual. That landed them in the Semifinals of tournament play Saturday morning at Valhalla High. Valhalla had brought two separate JV teams to the tourney, and it was their top squad that took our Falcons down 11-6. Torrey played a final match in the afternoon against Vista, who took an early lead and left Torrey in fourth place. The final game score was 6-13. Cathedral Catholic prevailed over Valhalla HS in the Finals, and took the tournament title.
Torrey Falcons swept the field at Poway HS last night. JV began the onslaught, beating Poway handily with a score of 11-7. Varsity took the field next, and never let Poway in the door, finishing with a decisive 14-7 win. Novice completed the sweep with a win in sudden death overtime play. So far Torrey stands undefeated in league play. Torrey Pines faces Westview High next week in their final league game, and aims to take the Palomar League title again. The score was 11-8, and Torrey Pines Varsity was not quite finished with University City High School Tuesday evening when the lights went out. The game had begun with fast, aggressive play, and Coach Reed was stuck with the whistle as no referees were on hand to start the match. UCHS has a strong, physically talented roster of players, and Torrey was holding tough against them. During the second quarter a referee arrived on the scene and Reed could finally coach… and the Falcons began taking charge of the game. Then, just as the teams had lined up to begin the fourth quarter, the stadium lights shut off. The pool lights remained on, creating a lovely ambiance as if a Bellagio fountain spectacular were beginning- not the final quarter of a scrapping polo match. Unfortunately after several minutes it was determined that the lights would take far too long to power back up and the game was called. It sure looked like an eminent win for the Falcons. Meanwhile in the JV tank, things did not go as well. Our JV Falcons played well but shooting accuracy was a bit down. JV suffered a 4-8 loss to UCHS. Novice also had a good match but it got away, with a 6-8 loss.
Torrey Varsity and JV rolled easily through Mt. Carmel Thursday evening, Oct. 8th, with crushing scores of 19-4 (Varsity) and 12-2 (JV). Falcons will square off against CCA our next league match, to be played at Cathedral HS Thursday, October 15. See our PHOTOS pages for more photos from last night's games.
